Top of the Class Thursday: Meet Your CHS Valedictorian Andrea Luna!

April 2, 2026 - Canyon High School Valedictorian Andrea Luna is celebrating four years of hard work and dedication this graduation season. From reminiscing high school memories to the anticipation of new beginnings, read on to learn more about Andrea’s Path to Success.

Q) How did you find out you were Valedictorian?

A) When I first found out I was number one in the ninth grade, I asked my friend “is that good?” Once I realized it was important for college, I had to lock in.

On the day I found out I was officially Valedictorian, I was called into an office with Principal Echard, Mrs. Boyd, and Mrs. Jenkins. At first, I thought I was in trouble, even though I didn't do anything wrong, but when they gave me the good news, I was very excited!

Q) How did you celebrate this accomplishment?

A) I called my mom as soon as I found out and she was so happy! They are very proud because I am the first person in my family to go to college. We ended up going out to eat that evening and celebrated with an ice cream chocolate cake!

Q) Describe the entirety of your high school experience in one word.

A) Overwhelming

Q) What is your favorite high school memory?

A) The memories of when I first met my friends. I know that we will all go down different paths after high school, so I like to reminisce on my friendships, how we met, who they are to me, and how I grew as a person with them.

Q) What is one thing you would change about your high school experience?

A) I would try to be more outgoing. I was very reserved my freshman year, and it was lonely. I think I would try to put myself out there more, but everything happens for a reason.

Q) If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be?

A) Marie Curie, because she made a huge impact in the chemistry field with her exploration of radioactivity, so much so that it took her life. I would like to ask her about her work, since that is my desired field of study, and learn more about the elements of chemistry.

Q) What song would you use to describe your high school experience?

A) “Hold On” by Chord Overstreet because it starts very somber, but has a very empowering message. I really connect with the message of not giving up, because there were times when I felt overwhelmed by my coursework and responsibilities, but I would always encourage myself to push through.

Q) Which university will you be attending, and why?

A) At the start of this year I participated in the QuestBridge program which connects students to one of their partnering Universities. If you match with a University, you would receive a scholarship. I ended up matching with Harvard and receiving a full-ride scholarship! I am excited to experience the big city living of Cambridge and the competitive academic atmosphere.

Q) What are your plans after graduation?

A) I am looking forward to spending time with my friends and family before moving, and working to save some money! I am also interested in taking a trip to the coast, since I have never been to the beach.

Q) What's a piece of advice you'd give your younger self?

A) Take a deep breath, step back, and once you are ready, dive full in.

Thank you Andrea Luna for Growing Greatness on your Path to Success!
