January 19, 2024 - This year, 22 entries in the annual Reflections contest advanced to the state level from Comal ISD Council of PTAs. The student-selected theme for the year, “I Am Hopeful Because,” inspired original works of art from 20 Comal ISD campuses with 107 entries vying for a chance to advance to state.
“Our judges had an extremely difficult time choosing this year’s Overall Award of Excellence winners,” says Michelle Ross, Reflections coordinator for Comal ISD Council of PTAs. “We have some very talented students in Comal ISD.”
Each year, more than 300,000 students from across the United States participate in the Reflections program from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Participants submit original work to their campus PTA in one or all the available arts categories which include dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.
Each campus chooses the top entries to advance to the district or Council level competition. Besides arts categories, Reflections is further divided by grade level with primary (pre-kindergarten-grade 2), intermediate (grades 3-5), middle school (grades 6-8), high school (grades 9-12) and special artist (all grades welcome).
The 107 entries which advanced to the Council level will be recognized at this year’s PTA Reflections Awards Ceremony 6 p.m. Monday, March 25, at Smithson Valley High School.
This year, the following Comal ISD campuses participated in Reflections: Arlon Seay Elementary, Bill Brown Elementary, Hoffmann Lane Elementary, Indian Springs Elementary, Johnson Ranch Elementary, Kinder Ranch Elementary, Mountain Valley Elementary, Rahe Bulverde Elementary, Specht Elementary, Timberwood Park Elementary, Church Hill Middle, Danville Middle, Mountain Valley Middle, Pieper Ranch Middle, Spring Branch Middle, Smithson Valley Middle, Canyon High School, Canyon Lake High School, Hill Country College Preparatory High School and Smithson Valley High School.
