Updated June 13, 2022 - This year, Comal ISD graduated 1,812 students who are pursuing military, career or college plans. In a packed week of graduation ceremonies which began Wednesday, May 25, and ended Saturday, May 28, Comal ISD honored the graduating class of 2022 from its five high school campuses including the first at Davenport High School. Collectively, these recent graduates have persevered, accomplished many goals and created memories that will last a lifetime.
Class of 2022 Stats:
- $35.6 million in scholarships earned
- 1,812 graduates from five high schools
- 54 commitments to serve in the United States military
- Nine National Merit Commended Scholars, 83 identified in the College Board National Recognition Program
Canyon High School – Cougars - 1510 IH 35, New Braunfels, TX 78130
- 587 seniors graduated Friday, May 27, at Cougar Stadium. Photos from graduation may be found at comalisd.org/2022Grad/CHS/.
- Valedictorian: Breanna Lewis will attend Georgetown University to study computer science and international affairs. She is a National Merit Commended Scholar and was an officer for the National Honor Society as well as a member of the Canyon High National Art Society.
- Salutatorian: Felix Braun will attend the University of Texas, Austin to study business at the McCombs School of Business. He was a captain of the soccer team and among the first group of graduates to complete Comal ISD’s advanced language program.
- 28 athletes signed letters of intent to play the sport of their choice at the collegiate level.
- Four students signed letters of intent to continue their education in automotive technology through the Universal Technical Institute, and two students signed employment letters with local companies to pursue their careers in the construction industry.
- Nine seniors signed letters of intent to pursue their fine arts passion including theater, music and art.
- Canyon High Cheer team earned a National Cheer Association title.
- Two football standouts, Luke Elliott and Cameron Bibins, played in the San Antonio All-Star Game.
- 16 Cougar seniors committed to serve in the United States military. In addition, one graduate has been appointed to a military academy, and one received a ROTC scholarship
- Hud Baese has received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and will major in English and fine arts.
- Chandler Banks received a $180,000 ROTC scholarship to Texas A&M University.
- The Cougar Class of 2022 received more than $11.4 million in scholarships.
Canyon Lake High School – Hawks – 8555 Farm to Market 32, Fischer, TX 78623

- Valedictorian: Sophia Hamilton will attend Texas Lutheran University to study biochemistry.
- Salutatorian: Lyndsay Ford will attend Louisiana State University on a pre-med track.
- Three seniors earned honors by the College Board’s National Recognition Program including Seth Wilmoth who was named a Commended Scholar; Lily Wilson who was named to both the National African American Program and the Rural and Small Town Program; and Reid Simpson, National Hispanic Program and Rural and Small Town Program.
- Two athletes received scholarships and signed letters of intent to play the sport of their choice at the collegiate level.
- Two football standouts, Kolten Ramey and Jeremy Greene, played in the San Antonio All-Star Game.
- Ten senior Hawks have committed to serve in the United States military.
- The Hawk Class of 2022 received $5.2 million in scholarships.
Comal Academy – 1510 IH 35, New Braunfels
- 72 seniors graduated Friday, May 27, at Canyon High School Stadium, in Comal Academy’s spring graduation. Comal Academy assists students who may otherwise leave high school without their diploma. Photos from graduation may be found at comalisd.org/2022Grad/ComalAcademy/.
- Lexie Vosika was asked to give the commencement address in which she thanked the parents in the audience and teachers, concluding with, “Let’s move forward, continue to shoot for the moon and hope we land among the stars.”
- One student, Wyatt Duross, has committed to joining the United States Navy.
Davenport High School – Wolves – 23255 FM 3009, San Antonio
- 131 seniors graduated Wednesday, May 25, at Davenport High School Stadium, becoming the first graduating class of DHS. Photos from graduation may be found at comalisd.org/2022Grad/DHS/.
- Valedictorian: Preston Frazier will attend Texas A&M University to study biomedical engineering.
- Salutatorian: Seraphim Wright will attend Trinity University to study business.
- Six athletes received scholarships and signed letters of intent to play the sport of their choice at the collegiate level.
- Eight students from the graduating class at DHS will serve in the United State military with one enlistee and seven attending college on ROTC scholarships.
- The Wolves Class of 2022 earned $2 million in scholarships with $32,800 in local scholarships.
Memorial Early College High School with St. Philips College – Eagles - 1419 N. Business IH 35, New Braunfels, TX 78130

- 97 percent of graduating seniors also earned an associates degree from St. Philips College.
- Valedictorian: Whitney Kate Lohse will attend the Texas A&M University to study business in the Mays School of Business. She was active in the National Honor Society, Eagle Fellowship and Phi Theta Kapp. She served on the Comal ISD Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council and Youth Leadership New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce Student Advisory.
- Salutatorian: Lucas Ian Allison will attend the University of Texas, Austin to study business administration in the Red McCombs School of Business. He was active in the National Honor Society, Eagle Fellowship and Phi Theta Kappa. He served as a math and English tutor, and was a member of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, Emerging Leaders and “Because I Said, I Would.”
- Two students are joining the military including Matthew Michael Morrison enlisting in the United States Army and Alivia Maye Reynolds, enlisting in the Texas Army National Guard.
- The Eagles Class of 2022 received more than $4.5 million in scholarships.
- Noora “North” Awad received the University of Texas, San Antonio Top Scholar award which provides free tuition, room and board as well as study abroad.
- Two students, Jino Tesauro and Daphne Hernandez, earned more than $1 million in scholarships.
Smithson Valley High School – Rangers – 14001 Hwy. 46, Spring Branch, TX 78070

- Valedictorian: Ava Roat is a National Commended Scholar and will attend Baylor University to study biology and Spanish. She was involved in the Spanish Club and National Honor Society, as well as the Key Club and Humans of SV, serving as president of both.
- Salutatorian: Blake Gomien is a National Merit Commended Scholar, and he plans to attend the University of Miami to study architectural engineering.
- 41 athletes received scholarships and signed letters of intent to play the sport of their choice at the collegiate level.
- Three football standouts, Dylan Domel, Nick Freeman and Malachi Lane, played in the San Antonio All-Star Game.
- Eight students celebrated their decisions to pursue their passions at the collegiate level including music, art, STEM and eSports.
- 15 Rangers have committed to serve in the United States military with 10 enlisting and five attending college on ROTC scholarships.
- The Ranger Class of 2022 received more than $12.5 million in scholarships.
